اللبنانيون الحاليون معظم أصولهم من سكان كنعانيين
الكنعانيون أجداد 90% من الشعب اللبناني الحالي لأنو بيّن تسلسل الحمض الريبي النووي لعظام خمسة أشخاص كانو عايشين قبل أربعة آلاف سنة التقت في صيدا في جنوب لبنان أنو اللبنانيين بنحدرو مباشرة من الكنعانيين.
وقارن العلماء اللي نشرت أعمالهم في مجلة "أمريكن جورنال أوف هيومان جينيتكسن، the American Journal of Human Genetics" هاد المجين القديم بمجين 99 لبناني معاصرين.
وخلص خبراء الوراثة في المعهد البريطاني "ويلكوم تراست،" لأنو الكنعانيين اللي كانو عايشين في الشرق الأوسط وقت العصر البرونزي بين عامين 3000 وألف قبل الميلاد هنن على الأرجح الأجداد المباشرين لأكثر من 90 % من الشعب اللبناني الحالي، أما البقية بنحدرو من شعوب أوراسية مختلفة.
للتذكير أنو الفينيقيين هنن كنعانيي الساحل وتواجدهن كان على القسم الشمالي من ساحل بلاد الشام اللي بتواجد حاليا في سوريا ولبنان.
الدراسة وإن كانت على اللبنانيين فالكلام بنطبق لحد كبير على السوريين مع اختلاف بسيط في النسب.

The Canaanites are the ancestors of 90% of present Lebanese people as research found out. DNA sequences of the bones of five people who lived four thousand years ago matched with the DNA of present Lebanese in the city of Sidon in southern Lebanon. Showing that the Lebanese are descended directly from the Canaanites.
Scientists whose work was published in the American Journal of Human Genetics compared this ancient genome to 99 contemporary Lebanese genes.
Genetics experts at the British Welcome Trust concluded that the Canaanites who lived in the Middle East during the Bronze Age between 3000 and 1000 BC were most likely the direct ancestors of more than 90% of the present Lebanese people, while the rest were descendants of various Eurasian peoples.
As a reminder, the Phoenicians are Canaanites of the coast, and their presence was on the northern part of the coast of the Levant, which presently is in Syria and Lebanon.
